Yahoo!, and thanks for a good laugh!

This article in Yahoo! today is really funny (not the article itself, the user comments that follow it):

The most important food and drink innovations of the last 20 years - Scientists rate the most vital discoveries in the kitchen

The top 20 list was published as follows:

1. Refrigeration
2. Pasteurisation / sterilisation
3. Canning
4. The oven
5. Irrigation
6. Threshing machine/combine harvester
7. Baking
8. Selective breeding / strains
9. Grinding / milling
10. The plough
11. Fermentation
12. The fishing net
13. Crop rotation
14. The pot
15. The knife
16. Eating utensils
17. The cork
18. The barrel
19. The microwave oven
20. Frying

My sincere thanks to splendid wits such as "Emma" who wrote "Lead in says Kitchen innovations. I don't have irrigation, a threshing machine or selective breeding in my kitchen. Every (Yahoo!) article is just boll*cks isn't it." Indeed it is is Emma!

And how about "Jonathan Barrett" and "Smirnofred" who both sensibly point out that surely the can-opener should be number 4 in the list?

Then there's "Ian" who rightly points out that fire probably ought to be on the list, and "Stephen" who is spot on with his observation "I would have thought FOOD would come pretty high up the list".

There are many more very funny examples - click on the link above to read them all for yourself.

A very big thank you to all you fine Yahoo! users for making me laugh so much this morning!

The actual article isn't very well written to be sure, an increasingly common problem with Yahoo!, but no worries - the user comments make it all worthwhile!
